The Ocular Pathology course provides students with a practical and clinically oriented foundation in the study of eye diseases affecting both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. The course focuses on recognizing common ocular conditions through the identification of key clinical signs and symptoms, enabling learners to differentiate between normal and abnormal ocular findings.
Students will develop an understanding of the basic pathophysiological mechanisms underlying inflammatory, infectious, degenerative, congenital, and systemic-related ocular disorders. Emphasis is placed on early disease detection, clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and appropriate referral decisions, strengthening the ability to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered eye care in professional practice.
This course has been curated by Riphah International University faculty and staff using publicly available third-party content and Open Educational Resources (OER) for self-paced learning. Learners will engage with curated open-access materials to achieve the course learning outcomes. This course is designed for Optometry students, Vision Sciences undergraduates, and clinical optometry trainees who seek to develop competency in the recognition, evaluation, and primary management of ocular pathologies. It supports learners in integrating knowledge from ocular anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and clinical optometry to accurately identify anterior and posterior segment disorders, assess disease severity, and make appropriate management and referral decisions within primary eye care settings.
